I'm a Vet no thanks required

I am a vet.I joined the army during the first gulf war as a artilleryman.I’ve served all over the world and ended my service at ft Bragg NC as a paratrooper.I  just read another post from a vet saying he didn't want to be thanked for his service. His post was a little awkward but I think spot on. I joined because it was a good job and a fresh start in life.I joined because I wanted to see and do things that most people never will see or do.I wanted to join for the experience of it.I loved my time in the army and I love getting the right to say I was a paratrooper.I love the ability I have in the middle of a facebook argument with some supposed patriot to drop the big spade card of patriotism that most facebook warriors don't hold. I really feel uncomfortable when people thank me for my service and it's the reason I cover certain tats I have and never wear any military related clothing or hats.I love just keeping it mine an personal plus it feels too often that this praise comes from faux patriots that just love dumpster fires, basically right wing not jobs that have no idea what patriotism means.I am embarrassed by all this nationalistic fervor my country has gotten all amped up about.I hate these foolish wars that have claimed the lives of so many people, good people some who I trained and lived with .I am embarrassed to be an american now and once upon a time years ago I was a proud american .I served under democrat and republican presidents and it used to not matter….
